Thirumalai's parents are poor, illiterate and hail from Karayalanoor. They have eight children, Thirumalaikumar is the Seventh. He was affected by polio, when he was 2½ years. His left leg is affected and despite treatments by the Governments Hospital the condition did not improve. He fell behind in studies, since no one would carry him to school. His mother had her hands full with the other children and father is a day wage earner.
At this stage, Amar Seva Sangam's Rehabilitation worker came to his rescue. The parents heard about the activities of the Sangam and approached the camp who referred the child to Ayikudy. Dr. Sundar, the visiting specialist physiatrist advised special therapy to be administrated in the Sangam. The boy is attending school at Sivasaraswathy Vidyalaya, which is run by Amar Seva Sangam and he is studying in VIII standard and getting his treatment concurrently.
