We are happy to announce that K. Karthik has achieved the goal set byt Phase I rehab - to be able to integrate with family and community - and has been sent home to live with his parents. Karthik attends the local school and his integration in to society is being monitored and assisted by Amar Seva Sangam. Hence the sponsorship has been transferred to another younger & well deserving candidate - R. Thathabeer

Family Details

K. Karthick is the son of C. Kasi and Saraswathy.  His father, Kasi is employed as a coolie and has previously completed school until the third standard.  The education experience of Karthick’s mother, Saraswathy, is unknown. Per month, the family receives a salary of between 500-1500 rupees.

Strengths:

            Karthick is currently able to eat, drink, and brush his teeth independently.  He is receptive to verbal communication, and can follow brief directions.  Karthick’s current conceptual understanding involves comprehension of size, shape, color and numbers. He recognizes a wide array of objects and animal, and can arrange them as instructed. He is also comfortable interacting with a large group of peers in his age group.

Required Areas of Improvement:

            Karthick currently requires assistance in bathing dressing and grooming. He lacks any understanding of money and time, and experiences difficulty navigating through familiar areas including his own neighborhood

 Educational/ Management Plan:

            Long-term goals for Karthick include the conceptual introduction of money, time and numbers.  Furthermore, he will continue to receive instruction in basic assisted living skills.  In addition, he will undergo exercises and training to improve his speech. Finally, Karthick’s management plan also includes providing educational counseling and support to his parents.
