Nature of Disability: She is a cheerful girl, but very emotional. She
can speak a few words, but with breaks. She
is not aware of her personal necessities like
dressing and eating.
Medical History:
On birth, the baby had a mole or extra growth on the right side of the spinal cord. It was operated upon. Nowadays, she gets fits occasionally.
Training Given at Nesam School:

She walks with her feet moving broadly sidewise. To make her walk straight boxes are drawn on the floor and she is asked to keep her foot inside the box. | |

She does no feel the necessity to cover her body properly. Since, she was a little girl, she has been taught to change her inner garments and also to take a bath by herself. | |

She is trained to protect herself from others and also not to mingle with other boys. | |
|
She is given memory-tuning practice by the ways of action songs, stories and matching pictures. | |
|
She is taught to be conscious of cleanliness. | |
|
She is given speech therapy, to talk a few words, without breaks. | |
|
She is made to understand what is correct and what is wrong. This helps her to control her anger. | |
|
She is taught the ingredients in making coffee, juice etc. This is aimed at training her at domestic work. |
Other Characteristics

She is independent in eating and toileting activities. She needs help in dressing. | |

She is able to pick up her name (written) from a group of other names and matches her name with individual letters. However, she does not write her name. Her temper tantrums are reduced with behaviour modification techniques. She understands the concept of numbers only up to the number ‘1’. | |

She is able to sort out colour and coins, but does not understand the concept of money or coins. She ddoes not read the functional words. With physical and yoga training, her gait is improved. | |

There is not much improvement in her speech. | |

She participates in all the vocational activities. | |
|
Of late, she has developed seizures and she is under medical care. | |
|
She feels drowsy and there some slowdown in her overall improvement. |
