Birth history of the Child:
First Child. No Birth cry. Cried after 3 days. Delayed Milestones Walked after 3 years. Fell down very often. She was operated upon both the thighs and ankles at the age of 10. after which she started to walk without falling.
Condition of the Child on Admission
She walks with a wobbling gait. No oral expression other than “Amma”. No firm grip in her fingers. She is not able to eat with her hands. She is being fed by the mother. She has difficulty in swallowing. She is dependant for all her daily activities like dressing. grooming, toiletting etc., She seems to understand what is spoken to her and responds with a nod as to ‘yes’ or ‘no’. She expresses her basic needs through gestures. Does not read or write. Does not scribble. No number, time or money concepts.
Training Given at Nesam
- Priority is given to improve her self help skills and communication.
- Practice is given to eat with a spoon independently. (The Spoon is adapted for firm grip)
- She is being trained on “Alternative communication” A Communication board is made and she is
given practice to communicate using that board and she is happy about that.
- She is given activities to improve her fine motor co-ordination (grasp and grip)
- She is being taught to identify colors, shapes etc., (pre reading skills)
- To identify her name and functional words - Man, Woman, Exit. In. Out. Danger and Poison.
- To scribble on a slate.
- To Sort out coins and place the numbers 1 to 5 in sequence.
- Physical exercises are given to improve her gait and hand function.
