SAD DEMISE OF DR. S. SUMATHI
With profound grief, we would like to inform you all that Dr.S.Sumathi, Executive Committee Member, Amar Seva Sangam, Managing Trustee of Amar Foundation and sister of Shri. S. Sankara raman –Secretary, Amar Seva Sangam and of Sulo Krishnamurthy – President, Handi-Care Intl., expired on Sunday, April 26, 2015 in the early morning at 3.10.am. She was on medical treatment for the last 10 days and she gave a brave battle for life at the Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital at Trivandrum but in vain. Dr. S. Sumathi joined as a volunteer Director in 2002, following an early retirement as Professor and Head of the Dept. of Commerce at SR College, Trichy. Her contribution to Amar Seva Sangam is innumerable and too many to list here. She developed the IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open Institute), the disabled youth training centre and The Vocational Training Centre from their grassroots, implemented various educational and training programs, managed the visitors and guests, supervised the daily activities of children and youth living in campus, streamlined the activities in every department and brought in efficiency and accountability. She was HCI’s liaison for all our volunteers and clinically placed students. Overall, she was a role model and mentor for each and everyone which made her indispensible. She was exceptionally caring, compassionate, and generous and loving that made it easy for anyone to approach her.

It is indeed a great loss to Amar Seva Sangam and will be missed by each and everyone. Her funeral, which was conducted on the same evening was attended by over 1000 children, youth and adults, some of whom had flown from various places to see her in a very short time of less than 10 hours. Let us all pray for her soul to rest in peace.
