G. Chellamal is 23 years old and is unique in that she was one of the first children to join Amar Seva Sangam. She comes from a family of seven, with three sisters and three brothers. Her father has passed away and her mother is a housewife.
Chellamal came to ASSA in 1987 and has since seen the growth that Amar Seva Sangam has achieved to become what it is today. Through her time here, she has attended physiotherapy and schooling right from the age of 6. To date, she has completed her bachelors degree in computer applications and is currently pursuing a masters of computer applications degree. In the past, she has completed courses in data entry operations, type writing in Tamil and English and she has received her certificate in computing. In the future, Chellamal hopes to work as software engineer or a computer programmer in Chennai.
As one of ASSA’s first students, Chellamal has grown up as part of the campus. She says that ASSA has given her the ability to get an education that she wouldn’t have received anywhere else. She has made numerous life long friends here and she notes that being at ASSA surrounded by several people in the same position as her has helped to greatly improve her self confidence. In her spare time, Chellamal enjoys listening to music, singing, playing carom and reading novels.
