Ramalakshmi is strikingly intelligent and tends to be very shy and quiet. She is 18 years old and she is now at Amar Seva Sangam to pursue a bachelor of commerce degree.

Ramalakshmi was affected by poliomyelitis at a very young age and since has been working to improve the strength in her legs so she can be more mobile. She can currently walk with the aid of calipers.  At only 18 years of age, she is in her first year of her degree program with 3 more remaining.  She has completed a course in typing and has become very good at it. In the future, Ramalakshmi hopes to attain a career as a chartered accountant.

Ramalakshmi receives daily physiotherapy treatment for half an hour.  Since attending physiotherapy, she has noticed improvements in her hip balance and lower limb strength.  She will continue to work at these tasks along with waking exercises to help her with her calipers.

Ramalakshmi has had the support that she needed here at Amar Seva and has been able to excel at her schoolwork and hand work (making toys and book binding) while continuing to improve her physical abilities. In her free time she enjoys singing along to Tamil songs and reading.  She extends a warm “thank you to HCI” for their ongoing support in her rehabilitation.
