Antony Rani, suffers from bilateral Polio, joined ASSA in 2003, completed 1 year course of DEO & Typewriting. She then joined a Govt. concern as an apprentice for 1 year till Feb. 2005. She has come back to ASSA to further her studies.

Her initial education was sponsored by Sivaram Ramanathan thru HCI.

Arokiyasamy

Arokiyasamy, suffers from Polio in both legs. Joined ASSA in June 2002. HCI sponsored his education (DEO, Typing, MS Office) and Rehab till he completed.

He is now enployed at ASSA as chashier.

Arunmozhi

Arunmozhi - Suffers from Polio, successfully completed BCA and is gainfully employed.

Mr. G. Amirtha Raj (20 years)

He suffers from birth deformity. Foot in the both the legs, fingers and wrist in the both the hands are affected. His foot movements and finger movements in the hands are restricted and hence his ability in walking and doing handwork are under constraints. Now after therapy and training he is able to walk freely as well as with improved hand finger movement has completed typewriting. He hails from poor family. His father has deserted the family.

He was given vocational training in DEO, MS-Office and now learning DTP.

Ms. M. Gomathy (23 years )

When she was admitted in the DYTs hostel in Amar Seva Sangam, she had completed 12^th Std. She is affected by polio in the right leg and while joining Sangam she was not fitted with caliper and had only hand to knee gait. After coming the Sangam she was given physiotherapy and is also fitted with caliper now she walks freely and travel by buses. She hails from poor family and her father working as an attender in a college.

She studied Data Entry Operation, MS-Office, DTP, Typewriting both in Tamil & English. She is now working in Sangam as a receptionist-cum-telephone operator.

Mr. Jegannathan

Mr. Jegannathan, joined ASSA in July 2003 and completed DEO, MS-Office & typing in both Tamil & English. His education was sponsored by Sivaram Ramanathan thru HCI.

Now Jegannathan has joined a course in tailoring at Red Cross, Chennai.

Mr. Jeyan

Mr. Jeyan, affeted with Polio in both legs, joined ASSA in June 2002 and completed

DEO, DTP & Typing in both Tamil & English. His education was sponsored by R.K. Moorthy for 6 months and then by HCI from Jan . 03.

Now he is employed at Erode

Ms. Kalpana

Ms. Kalpana, affected with Polio in her left leg, joined ASSA in July 2003 and completed

DEO, DTP & Tailoring. Her education was sponsored by HCI for 1 year from Oct. 03.

Now she is employed at ASSA at the Toy making section of Vocational training.

Mr. Krishnakumar

Mr. Krishnakumar, affected by Polio, joined ASSA in Aug. 2003.

His education and training was sponsored by Sivaram Ramanathan thru HCI for a year from Oct.03 to Sept. 04.

He completed DEO, DTP, Typewriting (English & Tamil - Lower)

He has joined one year course in offset printing at Red Cross, Chennai.

Ms. K. Mahesh (21 years)

She had completed 9^th std. She is affected by polio in the right leg and while joining Sangam she was not fitted with caliper and had only hand to knee gait.

She joined ASSA in 2003, got trained in tailoring & handicrafts. She is given physiotherapy and is fitted with caliper now she walks freely and travel by buses. She hails from a very poor family

She has learnt, typewriting, embroidery, tailoring etc.. She is also proficient in operating Xerox Machine. Under the distance education scheme she has studied 10^th std and is now appearing for the final exam.

She is working as Xerox operator and tea room incharge in Amar Seva Sangam.

Ms. Matha

Ms. Matha, affected by Polio in her left leg, joined ASSA in Mar.2003. Her education was sponsored by HCI for 1 year by Mr. Balu Ramasubramanian from Oct. 03.

Upon completion of her studies, she is now employed in Chennai

Meena

Ms. Meena, affected by Polio in her left leg, joined ASSA in July 2002. Her education was sponsored by HCI for 6 months from Jan 03.

Upon completion of her studies, she is now employed at ASSA as Data entry operator.

Ms. Padmavathy

Ms. Padmavathy - Suffers from polio, has successfully completed training at ASSA and has moved on to a degree course at Annamalai University. She gained confidence and got training in her disability management skills during the period she was at ASSA. She also received therapy and was given a wheelchair that has made her mobile. She is very grateful for all the help given by HCI and ASSA

Ms. S. Priya (22 years )

Her left lower limb was affected with polio. She could walk with only difficulty. With this she had successfully completed her graduation in literature.

Joining Amar Seva Sangam, she was given regular physiotherapy and provided with a special shoe. Underwent vocational training in MS-Office, tailoring, handworks. She participated in the Sub Regional Abilympics in May last and won a Silver Medal for Computer Programming in VB. Now she is waiting for a job.

Mr. S. Paramasivan

Mr. S. Paramasivan, affected by Polio in his right leg, joined ASSA in 2003 and got training from Jan 03 to Mar. 2005 in DTP & Typing. He was sponsored by HCI for a period of 1 year.

Now, he is employed as a cashier in a hotel at Tirupur.

Ms. Radha

Ms. Radha, severely affected by Polio and confined to a wheelchair, joined ASSA in Nov. 2000. She came under HCI sponsorship in 2002. She is a bright student and has completed BCA (Bachlors in Computer Application).

At ASSA she has undergone corrective proceedures and intense Physiotherapy and as a result her strength and coordination have improved significantly.

Due to her restricted movements, she seeks employment at ASSA. Currently she is getting trained in accounts.

She won bronze medal in the sub-regional Abilimpics in English Text Processing held in May 05 at ASSA.

T. Ramakrishnan (20 years)

He had completed is 12^th Std. He could walk only with a stick as his left leg was affected with polio and had a bend in his leg. He could not even stand alone without the help of the stick. After corrective surgery and fitted with a caliper he is able to walk freely. His gait and personality has improved marvelously. He is motherless and his father is a local tailor with hand to mouth living.

Ms. Samsath Begam

Ms. Samsath Begam, affected by Polio and rendered to a wheelchair, jined ASSA in 2001. With HCI's support, she has completed her studies. She is now employed as Data Entry Operator in Taluk Office , Madurai .

Mr. Selvam

Mr. Selvam, affected by Polio, joined ASSA in Dec. 2003. He excels in tailoring and handwork. He won gold medal in the sub-regional Abilimpics in Photo coverage held in May 05 at sangam. His education was sponsored by Vani & Suneil Sastry and by HCI until he completed training in early 2005.

He is currently employed in toys making section at ASSA.

Mr. M. Udhaya Kumar (21 years)

His right lower limb is affected with polio. He was a member of Amar Seva Sangam’s Village Based Rehabilitation. He had done his Diploma in Civil Engineering.

He was also walking with hand to knee gait but now after being fitted with caliper his gait has improved and he moves around on his own without need of any help. His father is a labour and one of his elder brothers is a mental ill patient and another deserted the family.

After joining Amar Seva Sangam he has successfully completed Auto CAD, MS-office. He has just got an offer in a Civil Engineering company as a supervisor.

Ms. S. Uma Maheswari (19 years)

She had completed her 12^th Std. when she was admitted in Amar Seva Sangam

She used to walk limping with her right hand tightly gripping her right knee as she had been affected with polio in her childhood. Her mother is also a physically challenged lady affected by polio and her father has deserted the family and she is supported only by her uncle. She hails from poor family.

After coming to the Sangam she was given physiotherapy and is also fitted with caliper. Now she walks freely.

She has completed DEO, MS-Office and DTP in computer courses.

Ms. Uma Soundari

Ms. Uma Soundari, an orphaned child, grew up with her aged grandfather who supported her education beyond high school. Uma went on to study Nursing, when she suddenly fell ill with a rare disease and eventually her left leg was amputated below the knee.

She joined ASSA in Feb. 2004. This was made possible by the generous sponsorship of Mrs. Uma Ramachandran of Detroit and Mrs. Shanthi Murali of Toronto thru HCI, as Uma required a double sponsorship to support her expensive medical treatment to prevent the disease from spreading and to continue with her education.

Uma completed her studies and found employment as a Nurse at Thirunelveli. She sends her heartfelt gratitude to her sponsors.

Mr. Velmurugan

Mr. Velmurugan, affected by Polio and rendered to a wheelchair, joined the Vocational training program at ASSA in July 2003. He immediately came under HCI sponsorship. He completed DEO, DTP, Typewriting (English Lower & Higher) and MS-Office, Typewriting (Tamil Lower).

Velmurugan recently underwent corrective surgery paid by ASSA/HCI and is undergoing physiotherapy.
